Wild Rift Open Beta coming to Europe in December

Riot Games have just announced that their newest game, League of Legends: Wild Rift will have an open beta for Europe, and it is coming in December. Here is their announcement:

Wild Rift Open Beta coming to Europe in December – What is Wild Rift?

Wild Rift is a sister game to League of Legends. It has the same champions, the same Summoner’s rift we know and love, and best of all the same feeling of League. Wild Rift was created to give a more “on-the-move” type of gameplay which includes shorter game length.

Even though Wild Rift is based on Riot’s main game, League of Legends, it’s definitely not the same game. Of course with Mobile being a much different platform than PC it comes with its own obstacles.

The game is currently already playable by players from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Korea and the Philippines as the Open Beta version of the game is available in those countries.

Which countries and regions will it be available to?

As stated in their announcement video, Wild Rift’s Open Beta will be available in December for the following regions: Europe, Middle East, North Africa, Russia, CIS, Turkey, Oceania, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

What’s next for Wild Rift?

Wild Rift will certainly shake up the Mobile Esports scene. Not only will it bring new players into esports, but it might develop future professionals as well. As we’ve seen with the success of PUBG mobile and the PUBG scene, Riot is eager to have similar outcomes with Wild Rift.

Fnatic announce Rekkles’ departure

In our latest LoL Rostermania we covered many of the roster moves that have occurred or still happening post-Worlds 2020. This time however we have sad news for Fnatic fans as the organization has opted to announce Rekkles’ departure from the team. Here is their announcement:

Fnatic announce Rekkles’ departure – Why?

This will be the second time that Rekkles will be moving away from the Black and Orange, as back in 2014 he departed Fnatic to join Alliance. Unfortunately for him, he did not have as much success as he had previously with Fnatic, so he decided to join the team for another time.

Rekkles has been detrimental to Fnatic’s success in his 8 years with the organization, and will surely benefit any other team he will be joining in the seasons to come. Rekkles’ reason for his departure is unclear, but if one were to guess, it’s because he wanted to change his atmosphere in a new and different team.

Here are Fnatic’s best achievements with Rekkles

Which team will Rekkles be joining for the 2021 season?

According to other sources, primarily Bloop and Wooloo, G2 esports will be announcing Rekkles’ arrival sometime tomorrow:

Community reaction

Many fans have been praising this rumored roster move as the biggest in Europe, stating that if the deal goes through, G2 will have successfully built the European super team.

The move is certainly exciting, as finally, after numerous role swaps, G2 has an experienced and dedicated AD Carry player. This will be an exciting season for League of Legends, so be sure to keep yourself updated on www.esportsguide.com for more esports news!

World Champions Nuguri and Beryl enter free agency

World Champions DAMWON Gaming have announced that their Top Laner Nuguri, and Support role player BeryL will be opting to enter free agency. Here is their announcement:

World Champions Nuguri and Beryl enter free agency – Why?

DAMWON Gaming have revealed that these two players have their contracts expired, but this does not necessarily mean that they will be leaving the team. As DAMWON have stated, they are continuously trying to renew their contracts, and will manage to do so if they are not given a more suitable offer from another team.

Both Nuguri and BeryL have been with DAMWON for over 2 years, and have certainly shown their potential in the past few months, especially during the 2020 World Championship. Now with Head Coach Kkoma joining the team, the duo might think twice before departing the roster.

What’s next?

The Korean League of Legends will be entering a major shake-up heading into the 2021 season. We’ve already seen T1 acquire former DAMWON Gaming coaches, and DragonX parting ways with 4 members of their team.

100 Thieves adding Closer and FBI to LoL roster

With the free agency day kicking off, 100 Thieves have announced that they will be adding Closer and FBI to their main League of Legends roster.

100 Thieves adding Closer and FBI – Who are they?

Both players have had a short career so far, and have been playing for the Golden Guardians in the 2020 season. With Golden Guardians they ended both Spring and Summer Splits in 5-6th. Closer will be replacing Contractz in the Jungle, whereas FBI will be joining 100 Thieves as their ADC.

Closer

Turkish player Can “Closer” Çelik has been playing League of Legends professionally since 2017 when he joined Beşiktaş e-Sports Club. Since then he has played with 2 other rosters, namely: Royal Youth and Golden Guardians. Closer’s best showing was at the 2019 World Championship, where he placed 17th-20th with his team Royal Youth.

FBI

Victor “FBI” Huang on the other hand has had quite the number of teams under his belt. He has represented teams in the OCE region (SIN Gaming, ORDER, Bombers) and has recently made the switch to the LCS to represent the Golden Guardians for the 2019/20 season.

This Jungle & ADC swap will certainly impact the 100 Thieves LoL roster in a positive manner. 100 Thieves finished the Spring Split in 5th-6th and the Summer Split in 7th-8th, which means that this roster change will definitely benefit the team.

LoL Rostermania Post-Worlds – Highlights

All changes in a rostermania are important, but some are highlighted more than others. In this rostermania, I’d personally say that Perkz going to Cloud9 and G2 acquiring Rekkles are the biggest moves out of all. G2 have been very close to winning the World Championship, and acquiring such an experienced and high level player like  Rekkles might just do the trick. As for Cloud9, having a lot of success earlier in 2020, but slowly declining towards the end of the Summer Split has shown a lot of weaknesses for the team. Since then they have gone through an entire rebuilding process, changing coaches as well as core players. Perkz joining the squad will certainly have a positive impact and could be the missing puzzle for this talented roster.

UPDATE – 16/11/20 – Nisqy & Cloud9

With Nisqy’s departure announcement, it is now almost confirmed that Perkz will be joining Cloud9 for the 2021 season. Here is their announcement:

The changes mentioned above, including the ones that were reported are certainly ones to look forward to. So make sure you keep yourself updated on www.esportsguide.com for more esports news!

Damwon Gaming signing Kkoma as new coach

Worlds 2020 Champions DAMWON Gaming have just announced that they will be signing former SKT T1 coach Kkoma as their new coach. Here is their announcement:

Damwon Gaming signing Kkoma as new coach – Why?

With the recent news of Head Coach “Zefa” and coach “Daeny” transferring to T1, DAMWON were left without coaches, and who better than Kkoma? He has won multiple championships, featuring the 2015 and 2016 World Championships, and has been established as one of the best LCK coaches.

Recently, he has parted ways with Vici Gaming after a disappointing 2020. With them, they ended 9th in the Spring Split, and 11th in the Summer Split. Results that Kkoma is not familiar with at all, so it was natural for him to depart the roster and search for something better. The team will definitely benefit from Kkoma’s coaching experience moving forward, quite possibly replicating the performance they had in 2020!

What’s next for DAMWON and Kkoma?

Initially, rumors were stating that he would be returning to the T1 roster; however, with T1’s recent additions that is no longer a possibility. We’ll have to wait and see how the World Champions adapt to their new coach, and how they will perform heading into the 2021 season.

T1 adding Daeny and Zefa to LoL coaching staff

T1 have announced that they will be adding Daeny and Zefa to their main LoL coaching staff. Here is their announcement video:

T1 adding Daeny and Zefa to LoL coaching staff – Who are they?

Both of these coaches led the Worlds 2020 champions DAMWON Gaming during the entire year. However this will be Zefa’s 2nd time coaching the T1 roster as he had coached them previously between 2018 and 2019. During his time with the team, they had the following results:

  • 3rd-4th at 2019 World Championship – 3th November 2019 – $155,750
  • 1st at LCK Spring 2019 – 13th April 2019 – $88,239
  • 1st at LCK Summer 2019 – 31st August 2019 – $82,778

Daeny on the other hand will be coaching the team for the first time. He started his League of Legends coaching career with DAMWON Gaming at the beginning of 2020. Previously he was a professional PUBG player, where he earned a total of $12,848.83 in prize money. We’ve already seen his capabilities with a top League of Legends team, but will he be able to replicate his success with a team like T1?

Are these the only signings?

No, there is one more additional signing, but it is related to T1’s academy team. As stated by T1, former professional player Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong will be assigned as a head coach of the T1 academy team. Bengi, with his incalculable experience, will definitely be an asset to their academy team, but in the end we have to see how they fare in the 2021 season.

This is definitely an interesting coaching change from T1, and will hopefully benefit them during the 2021 season. After their disappointing 2020 it was clear that the organization had to introduce some changes, and seeing them add recent world champion coaches is definitely a good sign.

Astralis launching new talent development initiative

Astralis have announced that they will be launching “Astralis Talent” as their new talent development initiative. Here is their video announcement:

Astralis launching new talent development initiative – What is it?

“Astralis Talent” as they called it, will be Astralis’ main platform for recruiting to their esports teams and rosters. They will be looking for Danish players, or players residing in Denmark, as well as players from the Nordic countries.

What does this new talent development initiative consist of?

There will be 2 teams that the “Astralis Talent”’ will consist of. One of the teams will be playing League of Legends, whereas the other will be focusing on CS:GO. The LoL talent team will be led by Mikkel Donby, ex-Head Coach of Nordavind. The Main goal within the talent team with regards to League of Legends is to try and develop tier 1 players that can compete at a very high level and progress through the LEC.

On the other hand, the CS:GO talent team will be guided by Dennis Vang an ex-CS:GO professional player. Again, similarly to the LoL team, the CS:GO team will be based on developing some of the best Danish players in order for them to either get picked up by another organization, or by Astralis themselves. However for the time being, they will not be getting mixed up with the current 6-man roster.

Here is what CEO of Astralis, Anders Hørsholt had to say about “Astralis Talent”

Astralis Talent is an investment in the future as a possible recruitment platform for our A teams, as well as inhouse training for all players. It is a way for us to secure an even better connection to the local ecosystem and over time, we hope to elevate players into our A teams. This will not happen overnight, though, and we are going to work with the set-up and fine tune the processes over the coming months.

Source

As we’ve seen with previous academy-based teams, it has certainly aided rookie’s with their development as professionals in the industry. So definitely a great initiative overall, especially from an organization such as Astralis.

TSM reportedly acquiring PowerOfEvil from Flyquest

According to several rumours, TSM are reportedly acquiring current mid-laner for Flyquest, PowerOfEvil

TSM reportedly acquiring PowerOfEvil – Who is he?

23-year-old Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage has been playing League of Legends professionally since 2013. Since then he has been on multiple rosters, mostly European. Some being: Unicorns of Love, Origen, Misfits, OpTic, CLG, and most recently Flyquest. His best achievements so far were the following:

Why sign PowerOfEvil to the Mid-lane?

With Bjergsen retiring ahead of the 2021 season and moving into the coaching role, it means that TSM is currently in need of a mid-laner. And who better than PowerOfEvil? He has placed extremely well in most splits, in every region he’s been in, and was one of the biggest factors to Flyquest’s success in the most recent North American Summer Split. With PowerOfEvil in free agency recently, it is almost certain that TSM will be picking him up for the 2021 season.

LCK 2021 Season – Ten Teams Confirmed

Following a successful global appearance for the LCK at Worlds 2020, the next season is approaching. What’s so special about this season? Finally, after years of waiting, the LCK 2021 will officially be franchised. Bearing that in mind, only a limited number of spots are available, ten to be exact. Read on to find out who made the cut.

By ‘make the cut’, we’re of course referring to the million-dollar investments made by these top organizations. Accordingly, a reported twenty-one companies tried to dive into here, coming from various esports scenes. From the official teams, only one is fresh to the LCK reason from last year.

Worlds 2020 Venue - LCK 2021
Credits: Worlds 2020

Here’s the list of teams for the LCK 2021 season:

  • DAMWON Gaming
  • DRX
  • Gen.G
  • T1
  • Afreeca Freecs
  • KT Rolster
  • SANDBOX Gaming
  • Team Dynamics
  • Hanwha Life
  • Brion Esports

As part of being franchised, these teams will have the privilege of being safe from relegation for the first season. Beyond this, a franchised structure will also provide players financial stability, with each player entitled to at least $49,000.

The new team is none other than Brion Esports. Not necessarily new to the region, the organization has been heavily involved in the Challengers league and has happily made the leap to the main league.

Note that moving to just 10 teams will encourage roster changes.
