Fortnite is a cooperative survival third-person shooter, launched originally as “Fortnite: Save the world”, developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly. The original game was released for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox one in July 2017.

Fortnite: Save the world is a sandbox survival game with 4 players working towards a common objective. On September 2017 a stand-alone free-to-play version was released called “Fortnite Battle Royale”. Instead of co-op the game moved towards a battle royale-game mode for up to 100 players to play against each other with one person to be the last one standing. The game mode took on as an esport and is in competition with PlayerUnknownBattleGrounds (PUBG).

Tournament History

While the game is new, the prize money is already up there with the top esports. Fortnite went out with a big bang and announced they would provide $100 million in tournament prize pools in the first year of competitive play. Fortnite will also be holding a World Cup in 2019.
