Highlighted roster moves

The biggest roster moves in this version of the rostermania are definitely TSM’s changes. The only player that will stay be with the same role heading into the 2021 season is none other than Spica, TSM’s main Jungler. With Bjergsen moving to a coaching role, Huni, Lost & SwordArt joining the team, this squad is definitely the one to watch.

Some other notable changes are the moves made in the LPL & LCK Leagues. We can see in the list above that most of the changes include coaching positions. This will be a very exciting time of League of Legends as we’ll be able to watch these experienced coaches take these teams to the top to become the very best.

Cloud9 announce academy roster

Cloud9 have opted to announce their League of Legends academy roster heading into the 2021 season. Here is their announcement:

Cloud9 announce academy roster – What does the squad consist of?

Surprisingly, this new Cloud9 Academy roster, will not feature any North American players. The team currently consists of 2 Canadian players, and 3 Australian players. Here they are below:

Up in the role above we have a familiar face, as Darshan (also known as ZionSpartan) will be replacing Fudge (due to promotion) in the top lane.

In the Jungle we have Australian player ShernFire. He has been competing in League of Legends since 2014 and will be trying his best to show that he has what it takes in North America.

In the Mid-lane we have Jouhan “Copy” Pathmanathan, which is a product of the 100 Thieves Next program. With 100T he has gained loads of experience, and will be looking to showcase that with this brand new C9 roster.

As an ADC we have Calvin “K1ng” Truong, which has also been competing since 2014. He has spent the majority of his career in the OCE region, however he will be doing his best in the LCS academy league for the 2021 season.

Lastly, as Support, Cloud9 have acquired Australian rookie player Jonah “Isles” Rosario. He has had exceptional performances with Legacy Esports, especially during the 2020 World Championship, and will certainly be able to replicate his performance with this Cloud9 squad.

Community reactions

Many have said that this is the most stacked academy roster North America has ever seen. With an experienced player like Darshan, and an up-and-coming support player like Isles, the team is destined for success, and we can’t wait to see this team competing in the season to come.

G2 Ocelote answers on Perkz not going to Fnatic

On IWDominate’s most recent Crackdown we had G2 esports CEO Ocelote on the show to answer on Perkz not going to Fnatic. Here is what he had to say:

Carlos/Ocelote explaining why he refused to sell Perkz to Fnatic on Crackdown from r/leagueoflegends

G2 Ocelote on Perkz not going to Fnatic – Why is this big news?

Earlier in the transfer week we heard rumours of G2 esports and Perkz parting ways for the 2021 season. Some of the rumours hinted at Cloud9 and Fnatic both being interested in the ADC/Mid laner, but in the end we saw Perkz moving to North America and landing with Cloud9.

In the past 4 seasons of European League of Legends, Fnatic and G2 have always been at the top. The main reason for this was because of the players they had. Some of the core players that both organizations had were: Caps and Rekkles for Fnatic, and Jankos alongside Perkz on G2 esports. With former and recent changes included, both Caps and Rekkles are now representing G2. Which meant that the players which excelled in Fnatic, eventually moved on to play for the other reigning team.

What is so contradictory about this?

Perkz transferring to Fnatic would have created a challenging situation for G2 esports. Mainly because the level of the LEC would have increased overall, and G2’s winnings in both Spring and Summer splits would be doubted. With Perkz going over to the LCS this obstacle will be eliminated and G2 can continue to dominate Europe.

What’s next for G2?

Was it an egoistic move? Maybe, but the point still stands. G2 wants to keep winning championships, and they don’t want anyone in their way stopping that from happening.

Evil Geniuses signing Impact as Top Laner

North American organization Evil Geniuses has announced that they will be signing Season 3 World champion Impact as their newest top laner heading into the 2021 season. Here is their announcement:

Evil Geniuses signing Impact as Top Laner – Who is he?

25-year old Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong is a professional League of Legends player that has been competing since 2012. He started out his career with Xenics Storm, and then later moved on to SK Telecom T1 where he and his team managed to come out victorious in the Season 3 World Championship. Later on in his career (2015) he switched over to North America to play in the LCS with NRG Esports

After not finding much success with NRG, he transferred onto Cloud9’s roster later on in 2016. With C9, Impact had better results overall, and also managed to get the team into the Quarterfinals of the 2016 World Championship. By the end of the 2017 season, Impact got offered to play for Team Liquid, and the rest was history. Team Liquid’s newest addition created one of the best rosters in North America, and they consistently managed to win seasonal splits.

Here are some of Impact’s best achievements:

What’s next?

Evil Geniuses knew what they were doing when they signed Impact. With their disappointing 5th/6th placement at the 2020 Summer split, changes to the team were inevitable. Hopefully with their new signings heading into the 2021 season EG manage to get their performance up to par to compete with North America’s best.

Translation

For all of you that don’t understand Korean we have translated a few sentences of his announcement:

“First of all, I am very grateful to everyone who has supported and praised me so much for giving too much attention and love.

I Started (Playing League) at the end of season 2 until now, there were a lot of things, good things, hard things, sad things, and I feel like I’ll never be able to feel it again in my life.

From some point onwards, it is no longer full of negative thoughts rather than great fun and interest. It’s now because I’ve been struggling, now is the time to really let go of it.”

Crown retiring from League Of Legends – Who is he?

25-year old Lee “Crown” Min-ho is a retired League of Legends professional player who has been playing professionally since 2014. He first started with team 58ers and then moved on to the Korean team of titans known as Samsung Galaxy. With SSG, he won the 2017 World Championship, the IEM Season XI – Gyeonggi, and also placed 2nd in the 2016 World Championship. In recent times he has switched over to play for Gen.G, but unfortunately he could not replicate his success in his prime time years of 2016/17. This led to his demotivation in competing, and resulted in his retirement.

What’s next for Crown?

Despite him retiring at such a young age, Crown is still considered as one of the most legendary players, not only in Korea, but in the World. This may be a sad news to many, but this also opens up opportunities for Crown as a LoL coach in the near future.

Doublelift announces his retirement from League of Legends

This year cannot get any worse. Doublelift has decided to follow in Bjergsen’s footsteps as he announces his retirement from League of Legends. Here is his announcement:

Doublelift announces his retirement from League of Legends Why?

In his announcement, Doublelift does not make the reason for his retirement clear; however, he does mention that he spent over a third of his life playing League, and this might have affected his overall outlook on the game. Doublelift has had a huge impact on North American League of Legends, winning 8 of the past 11 split championships and dominating on every roster he’s been a part of. Doublelift will definitely go down as one of the legends to ever play League at a professional level. Unfortunately he will be retiring without a World Championship title, but as stated in his twitlonger he mentions “let’s just have the rookies take up the torch on that one.”

Here are some of Doublelift’s best achievements:

What’s next for Doublelift?

In his statement he does not mention exactly what his future plans are, but he advises all his fans to support him on his new journey. Whether that be in League, as a coach or some sort of analyst, we shall see. But until then, be sure to keep yourself updated on www.esportsguide.com for more esports news!

SwordArt Leaving Suning – Off to TSM?

Indeed, here at esportsguide we’re neck-deep in rostermania. Specifically, competitive League of Legends is witnessing numerous changes. Even the top teams in the scene are making changes, and that includes Suning. The grand finalist team is, in fact, making a change. Read on to learn how SwordArt leaving Suning makes things interesting!

Playing the support role for the strong side of Suning, Hu “SwordArT” Shou-Chieh is officially now a free agent. Having joined the side back in 2018, he’s been a fundamental piece of the LPL side. Indeed, his career as been transcending since, with his grand final placement at Worlds acting as his best achievement so far.

Accordingly, it’s easy to imagine that such a successful player is being sought out by many teams. Multiple sources have linked this announcement with a potential move to TSM. This is likely due to the fact that “Doublelift” from the North American side has expressed a desire to work with him.

Although speculation, the competitive community is anticipating a massive move such as this one. SwordArt leaving Suning gives every team the opportunity to add a fully accomplished support player to their roster.

Here at esportsguide, we agree with the general idea that a transfer to TSM could be epic.

New League of Legends Champion Rell, the Iron Maiden

Riot Games have just revealed their new League of Legends champion, Rell, the Iron Maiden. Here is their announcement:

Who is Rell and what’s her main role?

As stated in her biography, Rell is “the product of brutal experimentation at the hands of the Black Rose, Rell is a defiant, living weapon determined to topple Noxus.” Her main role in League of Legends is as a Tank support and is also very strong against opposing champions with high armor and magic resist.

New League of Legends Champion Rell – Abilities

  • Passive – Break the Mold
    • Rell attacks slowly but she temporarily steals a portion of her target’s Armor and Magic Resist to deal bonus damage based on the amount stolen. Rell can then siphon resistances from multiple different foes to grow extremely tanky.
  • Q – Shattering Strike
    • Rell stabs with her lance, breaking any shields and damaging all enemies hit (damage decreases after the first target). If Rell has a bound ally with Attract and Repel (E), she and that ally recover health for each champion hit by this ability.
  • W (pt.1)  – Ferromancy: Crash Down
    • (Can only cast while mounted) – Rell leaps into the sky and transforms her mount into heavy armor, and gains a huge shield that lasts until destroyed or re-mounting. Upon landing, she knocks up all enemies around her. Rell can then cast Attract and Repel (E) and Magnet Storm (R) during the transformation. Rell has increased durability, low movement speed, and a movement speed cap while in armored form. After the transformation, this ability changes to Ferromancy: Mount Up.
  • W (pt.2)  – Ferromancy: Mount Up
    • (Can only cast while in the armored form) Rell rushes forward and transforms her armor into a mount, and gains a burst of movement speed. During her next attack, she charges her target to deal bonus damage and flip them over her shoulder. Rell has increased movement speed while mounted. After the transformation, this ability changes to Ferromancy: Crash Down.
  • E – Attract and Repel
    • Rell magnetically binds a piece of her armor to a target allied champion, granting them bonus Armor and Magic Resist while nearby. Rell can then recast this spell to break the bind and stun all enemies around and between her and her bound ally.
  • R – Magnet Storm
    • Rell erupts in magnetic fury, yanking nearby enemies toward her. She creates a gravitational field around her, pulling nearby enemies in for a few seconds. The field does not interrupt her enemies’ other actions.

Here’s a video showing all of Rell’s abilities:

Rell affecting the Meta

Rell entering the supportive champion pool will certainly shake up what pro players will be picking heading into the 2021 season. With Pantheon, Leona and Nautilus being some of the most dominant supports in the 2020 season, Rell will certainly be a contender when it comes to getting picked. In the end we’ll have to see how the players adapt and utilize Rell’s abilities.

Rell will be available on December 9th when Patch 10.25 rolls in. So make sure you keep yourself updated on www.esportsguide.com for more esports news!
