North American organization Evil Geniuses has announced that they will be signing Season 3 World champion Impact as their newest top laner heading into the 2021 season. Here is their announcement:
Evil Geniuses signing Impact as Top Laner – Who is he?
25-year old Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong is a professional League of Legends player that has been competing since 2012. He started out his career with Xenics Storm, and then later moved on to SK Telecom T1 where he and his team managed to come out victorious in the Season 3 World Championship. Later on in his career (2015) he switched over to North America to play in the LCS with NRG Esports.
After not finding much success with NRG, he transferred onto Cloud9’s roster later on in 2016. With C9, Impact had better results overall, and also managed to get the team into the Quarterfinals of the 2016 World Championship. By the end of the 2017 season, Impact got offered to play for Team Liquid, and the rest was history. Team Liquid’s newest addition created one of the best rosters in North America, and they consistently managed to win seasonal splits.
Here are some of Impact’s best achievements:
- 1st at the Season 3 World Championship with SKT T1 – 4th October 2013 – $1,000,000
- 5th-8th at the 2016 World Championship with Cloud9 – 29th October 2016 – $202,800
- 2nd at the Mid-Season Invitational with Team Liquid – 19th May 2019 – $200,000
What’s next?
Evil Geniuses knew what they were doing when they signed Impact. With their disappointing 5th/6th placement at the 2020 Summer split, changes to the team were inevitable. Hopefully with their new signings heading into the 2021 season EG manage to get their performance up to par to compete with North America’s best.
