Reaching the halfway point, the LoL Worlds 2020 event has finally reached the Knockout Stage. Indeed, acting as the most popular esports event of the year, here at esportsguide we’re simply loving it. Accordingly, we’re happily offering even more coverage – read on for the Quarterfinals Schedule and Predictions!

LoL Worlds 2020 Group Stage – A Quick Review

If you haven’t managed to catch any of our daily reviews, we’ll review how the Group Stage rounded off. Across 8 days of matches, a double-round robin led us to the final 8 teams which now stand. Here’s how all four groups concluded:

Evidently, the following teams have seeded themselves into the Knockout Stage:

  • Top Esports
  • Fnatic
  • Suning
  • Gen.G
  • DAMWON Gaming
  • DRX
  • G2 Esports
  • JD Gaming

Schedule and Format for LoL Worlds 2020 Quarterfinals

In terms of format, it’s relatively simple. A single-elimination bracket will involve BO5 (best-of-five) matches. This means that all it takes is a single loss for a team to pack up and leave the event. Bearing this in mind, we have some phenomenal matches to look forward too.

Seeding for the Knockout Stage was carried out randomly. First place teams faced second-place teams thanks to a random draw. Each of the four Quarterfinals will occupy one match-day, engaging the full attention from the community. Occupying the same timeslot on each day, here’s the schedule for the LoL Worlds 2020 Quarterfinals.

17th October

  • Top Esports vs Fnatic (12:00)

18th October

  • Gen.G vs G2 Esports (12:00)

At the end of the Quarterfinals, there’ll be only four teams standing and competing for the season title.

Match by Match Predictions – Continental Rivalries

Looking at the match-ups, it’s evident that we’re in for some superb games. Beyond the fact that the competition is tight, there are certain continental rivalries which are worth highlighting. Why? It’s for the simple reason that these teams would have whole seasons of practice against one another and hence, can adapt better.

DAMWON Gaming vs DRX – Can DRX Strike Back?

The entire LCK 2020 Summer season revolved around the continuous battle between the top two teams of DRX and DAMWON Gaming. For the first half of the year, it seemed that DRX had the advantage and seemingly, an assured winning seed. However, DAMWON Gaming managed to pull together a massive 7 win streak to claim the win.

Since then, DAMWON Gaming has been on the rise, winning the LCK 2020 Summer Playoffs and dominating their Worlds 2020 group. For these reasons, I see DAMWON Gaming coming out on top. However, DRX definitely have a shot.

Suning vs JD Gaming – Two LPL Contenders

It’s without a doubt that the top team from the LPL is Top Esports. Beneath them stand Suning and JD Gaming. Throughout the LPL season, these two teams have regularly matched up against one another and for the most part, JD Gaming has come out on top.

Despite this, so far at the event, both teams have had equal performances in their respective groups. I’m expecting a continental showdown with classic LPL gameplay – if I had to pick one, JD Gaming would be my pick.

Top Esports vs Fnatic – Can Fnatic Steal it?

Although Fnatic managed to get through their group, the next obstacle is far greater. Top Esports has looked unbeatable all event, losing out once only. However, being from two continents does offer some variance – can Fnatic’s playstyle throw off Top Esports. In my opinion, I doubt Fnatic will manage to pull this off at LoL Worlds 2020.

Gen.G vs G2 Esports Honestly Indecisive

Out of the four matches, this one is the least clear-cut. Yes, G2 Esports may have been the best team from the LEC all year, but Gen.G encounters much stronger competition in the LCK. Bearing that in mind and their strong performances so far, it’s tough to call. Overall, I would give Gen.G the slight edge, but it’ll depend on who shows up on the day.
