A New look for League of Legends items

League of Legends’s season 10 is reaching its end and occasionally (usually with each season) Riot Games decides to update a few features. Whether it be how a champion looks, or updating certain item statistics. This time though, Riot will be introducing a new look for some League of Legends items. Some of them being: BF Sword, Bramble Vest and Rabadon’s Deathcap

Why are these items getting an updated look?

Updating a game, no matter how small, always keeps the game fresh and with a new feeling. Always something to learn and work around. Despite these changes only being visual changes, they are still necessary for the game to keep itself updated and fresh. Here below is a very clear comparison of the appearance of both BF swords (New & Old):

Community reactions

The new look for league of legends items, did not come without any backlash. Most of the active League of Legends players have fallen in love with the art style of the game, especially when it comes to items. So Riot changing how an item looks like will definitely not always have a positive impact.

When will the upgraded item icons be available?

At the time of writing, Riot’s plan for the update is to keep everything as is until the end of the season, and when the preseason arrives, they will release the new look for league of legends items as well as the rest of the changes altogether.

There are many changes coming to League of Legends heading into the preseason, so hang tight, and make sure you tune in to www.esportsguide.com for all your latest esports news!

Worlds 2020 Format Tweaked – Update

Recently, Riot Games have revealed further details concerning Worlds 2020. While the community is celebrating the fact that it won’t be cancelled, there are still tweaks to be made. Here’s the official format update for the largest League of Legends event of the year!

Vietnamese teams have been a source of trouble. Due to certain restrictions, they can’t make the travel to Shanghai and unfortunately, had to be removed from the event. This was an incredibly tough decision, but one which had to be made. Due to this reduction, the format had to change slightly.

Here is a concise review of the slight changes:

  • Play-In Stage will involve 10 teams instead of 12
  • These 10 teams will be split into two groups of 5 – depending on seeding
  • Single round-robin will determine winners to advance to Group Stage, while third and fourth placements will have to fight further
  • To do this, the third seed of the LCK has been advanced to the Group Stage

Nothing major, but Worlds 2020 has in fact changed through some tough decisions. Reaching its 10th anniversary, safety is being prioritised above anything else to ensure a smooth event. Everybody’s excited.

Vietnamese teams missing out on Worlds 2020

Riot have just released a statement regarding the Vietnamese teams that will be missing out on Worlds 2020. Here is their statement:

Why will they not be able to attend?

Due to the current situation with our global pandemic, the Vietnamese government has implemented a lot of travel bans and restrictions. One of them being to Shanghai which automatically disallows them to compete in the 2020 World Championship. The teams involved are: GAM Esports, EVOS Esports, and Team Flash. In the VCS 2020 Summer Split, Team Flash had already arrived at the Grand Finals, whereas the other 2 were fighting for their spot in the Losers’ Finals.

Vietnamese teams missing out on Worlds 2020 – Why is it big news?

Back in August, Riot Games revealed their plans and format regarding the 2020 World Championship. This included all sorts of information, however with 2 teams dropping out of the World Championship, Riot will have to adjust the format to keep an exciting Play-In experience.

Here’s what Tom Martell, Director Of Operations at Riot Esports had to say:

We are incredibly disappointed on behalf of these teams who worked so hard all year for the chance to compete on the global stage. While it certainly will not replace the experience for them, we will be awarding them their full share of the prize pool as though they had participated in the event.

This is how the group stage is currently looking like with the newest adjustments:

Missing out on 2 very talented teams will surely impact Worlds 2020. As this year’s World’s championship was going to be the biggest League Of Legends event ever with the most teams competing. It’s an unfortunate situation for the Vietnamese teams, however hopefully the pandemic does not affect any other teams that are qualified for the World Championship.

Kold retiring from League of Legends, hoping to return as a coach

Kold has just announced that he will be retiring from competitive League of Legends and hoping to return to the scene as a coach. Here is his statement:

Who is Kold?

25-year old Jonas “Kold” Andersen has been playing League of Legends as early as 2013. He started his professional career with Tricked Esports and then moved on to play for H2K, Splyce, Unicorns of Love, and most recently, Origen. He has an approximate total of $45,569 in esports earnings. Here are some of Kold’s best achievements:

Kold retiring – What led to his retirement?

Origen have had some very disappointing results lately. They had an excellent finish to their LEC Spring Split this year, as they finished in 4th, just under MAD Lions. Despite this, in the LEC Summer Split, Origen had horrible results, which led to them ending the season dead last with only 6 wins in the group stage.

Kold retiring will definitely sadden a lot of League of Legends fans, as he’s one of Europe’s Legendary players. However it will definitely be great to see a player with his experience coaching a roster filled with youngsters. We’ll just have to wait and see who Kold decides to coach for, whether it be a European or North American roster.

Cloud9 missing Worlds after loss to TSM in LCS Summer 2020 Playoffs

For the first time ever, the organization will not have an appearance in the 2020 World Championship after losing a best of 5 in the Summer playoffs versus TSM. Cloud9 not qualifying for Worlds is extremely shocking as this could be considered as the biggest throw in esports history.

Cloud9 missing Worlds – What happened?

In the Spring Split, Cloud9 had shown absolute dominance all throughout the split. Ending the Spring season in 1st place, after topping everyone in the group stage with 17 wins and 1 loss, and then advancing forward to eventually win out in the playoffs. Despite their amazing Spring Split, we are seeing a highly degraded version of the Cloud9 we saw earlier this year.

Cloud9 had an excellent start to their Summer Split. At Week 4 they remained undefeated, however by Week 8, Team Liquid took 1st place spot after losing 5 games. The Semifinals were still confirmed for Cloud9 however they quickly dropped down to the loser bracket after losing 3-1 to Flyquest. They were then matched up versus Evil Geniuses, which they beat quite easily, and progressed forward to face off TSM.

Game 1

Cloud9 had a terrible start to their first game, as they were losing a lot of early duels, which resulted in their first loss.

Game 2

In Game 2, Cloud9 showed a much better performance as they focused down on the main objectives to secure the victory.

Game 3

In their 3rd match, both Cloud9 and TSM were pretty even, however a huge teamfight win for TSM in the Jungle secured them a match point.

Game 4

The Final match of the series was yet again, another dominant performance by TSM as they took down Cloud9 bit by bit, and eventually taking down their nexus to grab their Worlds 2020 spot.

Cloud9 missing Worlds was extremely disappointing, not only for the fans, but for the players and staff of Cloud9 as well. This is what Cloud9’s top laner, Licorice had to say after their defeat:

What’s next for the LCS?

The North American Summer Split is not over. With this win, TSM are going to face off Team Liquid at the end of the week with hopes to reach the Grand Finals and go up against Flyquest.

LCK 2020 Summer Playoffs – Finals Preview

The LCK 2020 Summer Playoffs are reaching the Finals. After a long season, only two teams remain! Acting as the top 2 teams all year, DAMWON Gaming and DRX are gunning for each other’s throats. Here’s what one can expect.

Indeed, the two teams seeded very well into the event. DAMWON Gaming claimed first seed and sat in the Finals while DRX had to take out Gen.G first. Chiefly, one more BO5 series decides the entire season. What’s on the line?

Apart from the ₩100,000,000 for first, qualification for Worlds 2020 is present. However, DRX has already earned enough points thanks to their strong performance last season to qualify. Bearing this in mind, the match-up means a lot more to DAMWON Gaming. They need to win here to qualify for Worlds 2020.

The Finals will take place on 5th September at 10:00pm for most regions.

Predictions for the LCK 2020 Summer Playoffs
