G2 & Fnatic through to Worlds 2020

With LEC’s playoffs kicking off these past few days, we saw G2 & Fnatic going through to Worlds 2020 after a great performance in the LEC Semifinals

G2 have had a very worrisome Summer Split in 2020, however in the last few weeks of the Summer season, they managed to bring it back, and perform up to expectations and make it into the Summer split playoffs. Even though they were placed against MAD Lions, G2 were still heavily favored due to their recent improvements. It feels like G2 may have found their groove again and could get a really good placement at this year’s World Championship, or even better, win it.

Fnatic on the other hand have had quite a decent Summer Split. Beginning their group stage really well, although losing a couple of matches in between. Nonetheless they still qualified for the playoffs and made it to Worlds. Here are some thought from Fnatic’s main top laner, Bwipo, regarding how it would have felt if Fnatic did not make it to Worlds:

G2 & Fnatic through to Worlds – Interesting Storylines

One interesting fact to bear in mind is that Rekkles will be attending his 6th World Championship, equal to sOAZ’s appearances and also the most Worlds appearances for a European.

Qualified teams for Worlds 2020

So far, we have 7 teams confirmed for the 2020 League of Legends world championship. 2 from NA (Team Liquid, Flyquest), 2 from LPL (Top Esports, JD Gaming), and 3 from EU (G2, Fnatic, Rogue). Quite a solid lineup so far, and it is very exciting to see who will manage to make it out and qualify for this year’s Worlds.

TSM reverse sweep Golden Guardians in LCS Playoffs to keep Worlds dream alive

Yesterday, we saw another battle between two amazing LCS teams, TSM and Golden Guardians. They have both had a decent Summer Split, both ending in 4th and 5th in the group stage respectively, and overall performed really well during the entire season. In the end however, TSM seemed to be the better team, ending the best of 5 series with a reverse sweep in their favor.

TSM reverse sweep Golden Guardians – How did TSM make it to Worlds?

In the group stage, TSM started out in the Quarterfinals versus the Golden Guardians, but unfortunately lost 3-0 to them. This loss got them in the 1st round of the losers bracket versus Dignitas, which TSM managed to win 3-0. After that victory, TSM advanced to the 2nd round of the losers bracket, versus Golden Guardians, and this is how it went.

Game 1

In game 1, Golden Guardians had the edge since the very first minute, and with great coordination around the objective, GG secured the 1st game win.

Game 2

With regards to game 2, Golden Guardians had been surrounding their game plan around their main jungler, Closer. This worked very well in the early stages of the game, as his ganks in the top and bottom lane got them a huge economy boost with every elimination.

Game 3

Game 3 was much closer, however with TSM’s amazing teamfighting, they managed to bring it back and win it, to deny GG the clean sweep.

Game 4

In Game 4, we saw another dominating performance by TSM with their incredible ability to win very important teamfights. This led to them tying the series, and reaching match point.

Game 5

The final match of the series was quite close, even though Golden Guardians were ahead in gold difference for the majority of the match. Despite their advantages, TSM still had the stronger teamfights, which ended up benefiting them in the long run as they defeated Golden Guardians in the 5th and final match. Reverse sweeping the roster that clean sweeped them in the early stages of LCS playoffs.

This win meant everything to TSM’s ADC. Doublelift, as you can see in his tweet before the match:

Bjergsen was considered as the player of the series after his stunning performance during the 2nd round of the losers bracket.

What’s next for TSM?

With this victory TSM reverse sweep Golden Guardians, and they will be facing off Cloud9 in the 3rd round of the losers bracket. Their match is scheduled for August 29th.

We already have Team Liquid and Flyquest confirmed for Worlds 2020, and either TSM or Cloud9 will also be going to Worlds. The LCS Summer Split has certainly delivered so far, and we can’t wait to see the final stages of this season.

Flyquest defeat Cloud9 and achieve Worlds spot

Yesterday, we saw the second round of the LCS playoffs, where Cloud9 were facing off Flyquest, which had just advanced after winning versus Evil Geniuses. After an intense sequence of close games, Flyquest defeat Cloud9 and end the series 3-1 which got them a spot at the 2020 World Championship.

Flyquest defeat Cloud9 and achieve Worlds spot – How did they do it?

Heading into the match, even though Cloud9 were not performing as well as they were at the start of the split, they were still heavily favoured. Flyquest had certainly been showing that they have what it takes to take down a team like Cloud9, especially after that victory versus Evil Geniuses.

Game 1

Starting the first match of the series, the game was pretty even. Up until Flyquest’s jungler, Santorin started dominating the enemy team with his Lillia pick. After that, they had a huge lead in the game, which led to a very easy teamfight for Flyquest.

Game 2

In Game 2, Flyquest were in the lead for most of the match. However after they made a decision to engage Cloud9 while they were taking Dragon, they lost all their members, and the game.

Game 3

Game 3 was far closer than any games yet. After back and forth duels, Flyquest decided to take Baron, which opens up Cloud9’s base, leading to Flyquest’s victory.

Final Game – Game 4

The Final game of the series started off with Cloud9 getting picked off by Flyquest members. Then came a couple of teamfights around the dragon pit, and ultimately, after Flyquest took down the Baron, they moved on to Cloud9’s base, to crush down anything that went in their path to secure the Victory.

What’s next for Flyquest?

Their most recent roster change in the Top lane, replacing Viper with Solo, definitely paid off in the long run. Flyquest has been working very hard to be where they are right now, and it is definitely deserved. Can’t wait to see what they’ll be achieve in the final stages of the LCS playoffs, and in Worlds.

Indeed, only the top 5 will be making it to the LCK 2020 Summer Playoffs. Evidently, the following four teams are already confirmed for the Playoffs event and will progress regardless of the final performance:

  • DRX
  • DAMWON Gaming
  • Gen.G
  • T1

However, that hardly means that the league is over. Far from it actually, as the seeding is pivotal to success. Here’s a small reminder for the King of the Hill bracket:

  • 4-5th – Round 1 Bracket
  • 3rd – Round 2 Bye

CLG parts ways with LCS coaches Ssong and Weldon after horrible 2020 Season

CLG have announced that they will be parting ways with both of their LCS Head coaches, Ssong and Weldon. Here is their departure announcement:

Why did this happen?

The decision to part ways with both LCS coaches was definitely based on their results in the 2020 Summer Split. CLG finished the Summer split in 9th place with a score of 5 wins and 13 losses, just above Immortals in dead last.

Earlier this year in the Spring Split, CLG had also performed terribly, ending the split in last place with a score of 3 wins and 15 losses. Their 2020 season has certainly not been a great one, and some sort of management or coach change was long overdue.

How will CLG move forward?

CLG might have had a bad 2020 Season, however it is never too late to recover. In fact, stating these roster changes is only the beginning whenever a revitalization of a team needs to happen.

Hopefully with these changes CLG manage to bounce back to their glory days and regain some of the reputation they had lost.

As we previewed the end of the LEC 2020 Summer earlier, now the standings are finally complete. Bearing in mind the seeding for the LEC 2020 Summer Playoffs, let’s take a closer look at how the entire season ended.

Prior to the final week, MAD Lions and Rogue were locked in at a tied first place. Resultantly, their head-to-head match-up would decide the placements. Bearing this in mind, Rogue took the opportunity to snatch the lead. Accordingly, the standings are as follows:

Following the round-robin group stage, the top 6 have made it to the LEC 2020 Summer Playoffs. Taking place on the 21st August and running up to the 6th September, everything is on the line. Only the top three will qualify directly for the Worlds 2020 Main Event while fourth obtains a second chance.

When glancing at the season, one can only wonder at Origen’s failure from Spring. From third, they’ve now ended up last. The remaining placings are a result of the thrilling level of competition. To note, Schalke 04 has blown everyone’s mind with how they turned their performance around.

Seeds for Round 1 have already been secured. Take a look for yourself below:
