How to Watch the 2020 Garena Challenger Series Summer: event, teams, schedule, stream, predictions.

The Garena Challenger Series has quickly become a staple event for competitive Kings of Glory/Arena of Valor. Hosting two-season events each year, the 2020 Garena Challenger Series Summer is almost upon us. Kicking off shortly, we’re ready to witness the crowning of a new champion. Read on to learn How to Watch the entire event!

Running from the 15th of August to 8th November, an epic journey awaits. Split into multiple stages, this serves as one of the largest events for the year. Based in Taiwan, the Tier 1 event is throwing approximately $117,000 on the line for the six teams present at the event.

Accordingly, the offline event looks to take place at the Garena E-Sports Stadium in Taiwan. As previously stated, there’s only space for six of the best Arena of Valor teams in the world – and here they are. Note that most of them have made it as qualifiers from the Spring event:

  • ONE Team
  • Hong Kong Attitude
  • Flash Wolves
  • MAD Team
  • Most Outstanding Player
  • Samsung Taiwan Esports

Evidently, Samsung Taiwan Esports bought into the event. Indeed, MS Esports withdrew their spot and left the door open for them.

Most teams, having just come off the Arena of Valor Premier League 2020, are rearing to go. Also, the event serves as a small warm-up for the King Pro League Fall 2020 event.

Accordingly, let’s dive right into the format.

Format

Chiefly, the event is split up into the typical phases of Group Stage and Playoffs.

Group Stage

The group stage will involve an uncommon Triple Round-Robin format. Teams will match up with one another three times in BO5 games. All six teams will make up the single group.

By the end of the Group Stage, roughly on October 18th, seeds will be earned as follows:

  • First – Finals Bye
  • Second – Playoffs 2 Bye
  • Third-Fourth – Playoffs 1

Playoffs

Interestingly, Playoffs will involve a Single Elimination King of the Hill with BO5 matches. All of the action will conclude with a BO7 Finals.

For those unaware, the format looks somewhat like this, similar to the Spring event:

All in all, only one team will come out on top.

Schedule

Group stage alone will consist of 10 weeks of action followed by the week or so for Playoffs. Most weeks will involve two to three matches.

For example, below is the schedule for the first three weeks of the Group Stage:

First Week

15th August

  • ST vs FW
  • HKA vs MOP

16th August

  • ONE vs HKA
  • MOP vs MAD

Second Week

22nd August

  • FW vs MAD
  • ST vs HKA

23rd August

  • FW vs MOP
  • ONE vs ST

Third Week

29th August

  • MAD vs HKA
  • ONE vs FW

30th August

  • ONE vs MOP
  • MAD vs ST

Predictions

In terms of predictions, I’d consult the recent performances at the Arena of Valor Premier League. Here, when fighting for $350,000, the involved teams placed accordingly:

  • Flash Wolves – 1st
  • Hong Kong Attitude – 3rd
  • MAD Team – 4th
  • ONE Team – 11-12th

The remaining two teams weren’t at the event. On the flipside, if we consult the Garena Challenger Series Spring event, here, ONE Team managed to come out on top. So, in reality, it’s rather difficult to predict the outcome for this one.

What is for sure is that nobody’s sure where Samsung Taiwan Esports sits in the competition as the unknown factor. Besides them as the dark horse, I’d put ONE Team and Flash Wolves as the favourites.
