With the biggest R6 event this year kicking off yesterday we saw some strong performances, as well as some upsets. Most were surprised that Team Empire managed to top the standings with a 3-0 record at the Six Invitational. Here’s how they did it:

Team Empire top Standings with a 3-0 record at Six Invitational – How did they do it?

Team Empire kicked off the event with a dominant victory in their first match against Team Liquid. Empire won 7-4 and their next match-up was in Playday 1-B against Team BDS. The favourite for this match was Team BDS, but Empire showed that they made it to the Six Invitational for a reason. And this was clear in this match versus BDS as Empire started off strongly, and ended up winning the match in overtime 8-7. For their final match on Day 1 of the event, Empire took on Team oNe esports. The match immediately went in favour of the Russian squad, as they took 5 rounds on the defense, and then 2 on the offense, concluding the match with a 7-4 scoreline.

With their very dominant start to the event, Team Empire are currently sitting in 1st place of Group A. They are sitting high above teams like Liquid, BDS, oNe Esports, FURIA, and FaZe.

What’s next for Team Empire?

Team Empire’s next matches continue tomorrow, and their first match-up is against G2 Esports. In this second set of matches, Empire have 2 more games, playing against DarkZero as well as Cloud9. Certainly a couple of challenging matches, but if they keep their momentum, they might be the strongest team heading into the playoffs.
