The Korean League of Legends league, commonly known as LCK has concluded and T1 are once again champions of the Korean region. They currently have 9 LCK championships to the T1 name and are definitely eyeing on a 10th victory when the Summer Split arrives.

How did they do it?

T1 had an excellent performance during the group stage of the LCK, amounting up to a score of 14-4 which meant that they tied with Gen.G esports and DragonX, however Gen.G was in the lead as they had more matches won. This meant that Gen.G automatically advanced to the Grand Finals, and T1 to the Semi-Finals. T1 met with DragonX in a best of 5 Semi-Final where T1 won the series with a 3-1 score. T1 then progressed to the Grand Finals where they met with Gen.G, which resulted in T1 sweeping them cleanly with a 3-0 Victory to take their 9th LCK title.

Even though T1 took the title in the end, one must not discredit Gen.G’s exceptional performance in the 2020 Spring Split. In the 2019 season, Gen.G placed 7th in the Spring split, and 6th in the Summer split, so them grabbing a 2nd place in the 2020 season is quite extraordinary. This also means that the competition in Korea has also increased. Last year we had Griffin take the lead in the group stage for both LCK Splits, however T1 was always there to steal it away from them in the end.

T1 may be the strongest Korean team out there, but it does raise some questions as to which korean squad will progress further in this year’s 2020 World Championship. With the Mid-Season Invitational being cancelled we will only be seeing international competition during Worlds, which will be kicking off sometime in November.

Currently there are no plans stated from Riot Games that they will be cancelling or postponing the World Championship due to the current health situation, however anything can happen so fear not if some unfortunate news does release, there’s still the summer split to look forward to!

The 2020 LCK Spring split finals was definitely a sight to see. These two vigorous teams had an exceptional spring split and even though the Grand Final series concluded with a 3-0 scoreline favoring T1 it was still a phenomenal series. With the Mid-Season Invitational being cancelled, the next event to look forward to in terms of professional League of Legends would be the Summer Split. Will T1 and Gen.G keep up their dominant performance? Or will they fall off and allow another team to fill in their shoes?
