PUBG Global Series cancelled; shifted to PUBG Continental Series

News

We’ve had many events and tournaments get cancelled or postponed due to the current global health crisis, and this time it’s the long-awaited PUBG Global Series Finals in Berlin. PUBG Corp had already released a statement back in February regarding PGS Berlin that they were going to postpone the event as they were still monitoring the current health situation. But this time round they have announced that they will be cancelling it indefinitely. The event will be replaced by the new PUBG Continental Series.

Announcement by PUBG Esports:

Despite the unfortunate announcement, not all news is bad. In replacement of the PGS Offline Finals, they will be doing PCS which stands for PUBG Continental Series.

The PCS will consist of 4 regions:

  • Asia – Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan
  • APAC: OCE, SEA
  • Europe
  • North America

It is said that they will be held every May, June, August hence correlating with the cancellation of PGS. It will have a total of $2,400,000 to be rewarded across all events.

More good news that comes out of this, is that teams that had originally qualified to the PGS in Berlin will still receive $20K each. China is awarded the same for the teams that qualified in the top 5. And all of the 16 teams that managed to qualify for the Americas Finals will also be awarded $120K to be split equally.

The First PCS named “Charity Showdown” will begin in May which will consist of each region having a $200,000 prize pool. Half of the prize pool will be given to the teams based on their results, and half of it will be donated to a charity selected by the winning team.

The four PCS regional tournaments are intended to be held in June and August to provide an opportunity for the teams to prove that they are the best in their region. The prize pool for the official PCS tournaments is a total of $800,000 having $200,000 going to each regional tournament.

Even though the current situation has impacted esports, PUBG is still trying to provide a competitive atmosphere to all teams and players. Definitely a good move for PUBG esports overall.
