Mixer announced that they will be closing down the platform and officially partnering up with Facebook gaming. Here below is Mixer’s statement:
Even though this is good news for both Ninja and Shroud, this is devastating news for all those that were hopeful of creating a future on Microsoft’s platform. No one was notified about the situation and so, the content creators over at Mixer will have no home, and will have to start over on Twitch, YouTube or Facebook.
What about Ninja and Shroud?
According to reports from esports journalist Slasher, Ninja and Shroud were offered almost double the amount of income for the original mixer contracts they had. However they rejected the offer and it forced Mixer to buy them out. Ninja made approximately $30M from Mixer, whereas Shroud made around $10M.
What do I think?
I personally think that this is good news overall. Having 2 platforms for streaming (the main one being twitch and the second being YouTube) is healthier for the esports community, as esports figures and streamers will be easier to find and more connected to other content creators. Not to mention Ninja and Shroud will be benefiting the most out of this whole deal.
