On the 21st of March Rogue Warriors notified the LPL Discipline Committee that one of their players was reported for misconduct. In addition to this accusation, a task force was sent to perform a deep and thorough investigation regarding this incident on the Rogue Warriors matchfixing. Below is a statement from LPL:

Rogue Warriors have since then released their main jungler, Wang “WeiYan” Xiang. The organization had reported the match-fixing to LPL but they did this after a year of covering everything up. According to LPL, it was the involvement of a third party which directly contacted WeiYan, when this whole match-fixing incident caught everyone’s eye. Rogue Warriors are now obliged to pay this huge fine of 3,000,000 RMB which equals up to $423,687.50 whereas WeiYan has been banned from all tournaments and events which are League of Legends related for 2 whole years.

Why is Rogue Warriors being fined?

According to LPL regulations, it is stated that esports clubs have the responsibility to ensure that their coaches, players, investors and managers uphold the rules. The team was issued the fine with a severe warning and are expected to follow these regulations for the foreseeable future.

From WeiYan’s side, he has said that he did what he did mainly because he lost a lot of money while playing poker with his friends, which led him to borrow some money from someone. He was then approached by this “someone” and demanded him to match-fix for multiple matches and even though he initially accepted the offer, he had changed his mind and didn’t take the money and rejected the offer. Even though he is aware of his actions and the consequences it brings which led to his release from Rogue Warriors, he claims that he has never participated in any sort of match-fixing.

Unfortunately, we’ve seen a lot of cases of misconduct and match-fixing in esports as new players keep emerging, year after year, season after season, it will keep on occurring. Hopefully with this statement from LPL and many other organizations which have not tolerated any use of match fixing in their events, the occurrence of Match-fixing will decrease and eventually come to a stop.
