LoL European Masters 2020 Preview – To Go Ahead as Planned!

News

Competitive League of Legends, especially in the European region, has been the site of multiple youth breakout stories, as the esport slowly matures further. A pivotal event to this phenomenon is the LoL European Masters 2020 event which takes place yearly, with this year’s iteration unaffected by the ongoing pandemic.

Below we’ll be taking a quick preview at the European Masters 2020 Spring Play-In event, running live from the 6th to the 9th of April. Luckily enough for the competitive scene: it’s all online, so it won’t be cancelled or postponed!

The first leg of the European Masters, the Spring Play-In, is all about qualifying for the Spring Main Event. A total of 16 teams have fought to get to this point across Europe, originating from other smaller leagues such as the:

  • LPLOL,
  • Belgian League,
  • Nordic League
  • GLL

Most importantly, everybody is practically unknown to the community, and fighting to make a name for themselves and to earn recognition from larger organizations.

Following a double-round robin, only eight teams will be proceeding to the Knockout Stage where the competition will be halved once again to obtain a top 4. That’s all that matters because finishing top 4 is the only way forward to the Main Event.

Although there is no prize on the line, the competitors are playing for so much more – which is recognition. So while it’s important that a team wins, don’t be surprised to witness some egotistical, ballsy and downright flashy plays as individuals attempt to shine above others. Of course, finishing first helps with the prestige too!

Streams

For this event, streaming will be offered by Riot’s partner broadcast here: https://www.twitch.tv/eumasters

While there’s still a week or two left until the event, it acts as one of the few undisturbed events thanks to its online nature. Nonetheless, organizations and the community will be tuning in to figure out what the future of competitive League of Legends appeals to be.
