2020 LoL Championship Series Spring
With loads of exciting events coming up in the LoL esports calendar, currently, fans of the esport are spoilt for choice in terms of events to watch and this weekend kick-offs another prominent showcase of the League of Legends circuit, the 2020 League Championship Series (LCS) Spring.
In this year’s event, which is the second of North America’s fully professional League of Legends league under partnership and the league’s seventh year of the overall, the action should be more heart pumping and exciting than ever before with teams knowing what to expect. All 10 teams involved will know how it works now and what the stakes are with $100,000 up for grabs.
More than anything though, they will all be keen to make their mark here early and progress through to the next stage, the LCS 2019 Spring Playoffs. This is when it really starts to heat up as success here will mean qualifying for the Rift Rivals 2020 NA-EU, 2020 Mid-Season Invitational, or both, where even more big opportunities present themselves. As such, this is just the first step on a long journey and no team wants to bow out early doors.
Let’s take a look at how LoL Championship Series Spring 2020 looks like, how you can view it, and who are the teams looking to get their hands-on the glory.
How to Qualify for the Main Event
This stage of the event is essentially a qualification period in its own right as only the top 6 of the 10 possible teams earn the right to progress and battle it out in the Playoffs. These are scheduled to happen over the course of March and April. This will then give them a shot at qualifying for the Rift Rivals 2020 NA-EU or the 2020 Mid-Season Invitational. As such, this is just the first hurdle on the route to greatness. This is hence they were there was no qualification process for this event with the teams applying to and then allocated sports invited by the event organizers. Riot Games. Still, these teams include some of the biggest known sides in North America.
Tournament Format
The competition begins with a group stage where each team plays 18 matches in a Double Round Robin, i.e. each team plays every other twice. In these initial stages, the games will be played in a Bo1 format and so the pressure will be on from the get-go to get the results needed. Of course, points will be accumulated based on wins, while losses will count for nothing. When this is all said and done, the 6 best performing of the 10 teams will be able to process to the play-off’s stages, while for the 4 worst performing, it will all over for this year.
Naturally, in the play-off stages thing will heat up as the prize money and qualification places will then be in sight. The way this will work is that the top 4 teams in the groups will be seeded into Winner Bracket, and the other 2 will be placed in the Loser bracket. The 1st place group stage team will select an opponent from either one of the 34d or 4th placed teams to face in the quarter-final. The 2nd place team will face the other. At this point, it will be double elimination all matches will be Bo5.
Winners of these quarter-finals will compete in a Winner’s final and then the winner of this will then move on to the Grand finale, meanwhile, those in the Loser bracket’s route will consist of two rounds, followed by a Loser’s final and the winner will be in the grand final too. The winner will win $100,000 in cash and be the team that moves on to the Mid-Season Invitational 2020, while the 3 teams will qualify for Rift Rivals 2020 NA-EU alongside. Those ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th will then earn $50,000 $30,00 and $20,000 each respectively.

Prediction
In terms of the teams competing in this 2020 LoL Championship Series Spring, there is not quite as much world-class LoL talent as some other competitions might boast as, generally, the biggest LoL team hail from Asia. There is just one major team that will be involved in this series and that will be Team Liquid. These guys will compete for the top spots in any competition and this one will be no different and it would be a major upset not to see this e-gaming powerhouse to take that 2020 Mid-Season Invitational spot for themselves and also go to Rift Rivals 2020 NA-EU via success here. One of their main competitors here for this will likely be the other big name involved in the series, Evil Geniuses, who should also qualify for the Rift Rivals 2020 NA-EU. In terms of that final spot at Rife though, it is very open and any team would be a good bet.
