How to watch Fortnite 2019 Dreamhack Winter: event, schedule, and stream

28 Nov 2019

DreamHack Winter is a massive yearly event organized by the Swedish production company DreamHack. The company specializes in esports tournaments and other gaming conventions and is the world’s largest LAN party and computer festival.

Over the years, DreamHack has held events all over Europe. The first event was held in Malung, Sweden, and from there this “digital festival” has set up shop in France, Romania, Spain, Germany, and England. In 2016, DreamHack even crossed the Atlantic to organize an event in Austin, Texas.

DreamHack has its humble beginnings in the basement of an elementary school in Malung, Sweden. In 1997, the event moved to Arena Kupolen in Borlänge and became the biggest LAN party in Sweden.

From there, DreamHack set off on an incredible journey, and since 2002 the company has been organizing two massive yearly events – DreamHack Summer and DreamHack Winter. The summer event is held in June while DreamHack Winter always takes place at the end of November.

What happens at DreamHack?

It’s somewhat appropriate to call this highly anticipated event a “digital festival”, as DreamHack hosts a wide span of gaming-related activities.

First and foremost, we have the tournaments, of course. DreamHack provides every participant with a chair, a power socket and a LAN socket with one of the fastest internet connections the world has ever seen.

Then, each player has to bring his or her equipment of choice – you can plug in a computer or a console, and a TV or monitor. Since the tournaments are running around the clock, DreamHack sets up adjacent sleeping halls where participants can get some rest. If you’re really looking to compete, you better bring your sleeping bag.

Prestigious esports competitions

DreamHack’s known for hosting prestigious esports competitions that attract top players from all different corners of the world. With a prize pool of around £241, 000 /$310, 000 it’s no wonder pros attend the events to put their skills to the test.

These high-level competitions are live-streamed by DreamHack, other independent channels, and Swedish national TV. And every year, the DreamHack tournaments are watched by millions of esports fans across the world.

The DreamHack Kreativ competition

In this part of the festival, artists compete in 3D-models, demos, games, animations, movies, music and photography – in other words, anything art-related.

This is an especially important part of the event as many artists often don’t have access to platforms where they can showcase their skills and meet their audience in person.

Live music every night

What would a festival be without music? During the festival, there are big musical acts on the main stage every night. Naturally, the stage is equipped with advanced video broadcast gear, great light shows, and sophisticated lasers to underline the festival’s technological orientation.

Fortnite 2019 DreamHack Winter

DreamHack Winter 2019 kicks off the 28 November and ends on the 1 December. As usual, there will be a colossal BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN running for the entire duration of the festival.

Perhaps, the most anticipated part of the festival is the Fortnite competition, as DreamHack’s hosting the largest Fortnite tournament the Nordics has ever seen this year. This exciting live tournament is open to all attendees and has a staggering prize pool of $250, 000.

DreamHack Winter 2019 will be held at the Elmia trade and exhibition center in Jönköping, Sweden. Considering the fact FORTNITE is one of the world’s most popular games, and DreamHack’s popularity in general, this relatively small Swedish town is going to be very busy for a few days.

To put it into perspective, DreamHack Summer 2016 drew 50, 000 visitors. And considering Fortnite has 250 million players worldwide, the turn-out shouldn’t be any less this year.
