Gambit Esports win IEM Summer 2021 – How did they do it?

Gambit kicked off the tournament with a disappointing start in the group stage. After beating Sprout 16-6, the team lost 2-0 to Team Vitality, and dropped to the lower bracket. Here they took on Astralis first, winning 2-0, and after that, they played against Complexity, which they also won 2-1.

This result got them the qualification for the playoffs spot, and here they played against the North American Evil Geniuses. The series wasn’t as close as anyone expected, and Gambit won both maps (Dust II 16-10, Overpass 16-11). They then met against G2 Esports in the Semifinals, and that was also a disappointing series out of the European squad. Gambit won the series 2-0 to get into the Grand Finals against OG Esports.

Grand Finals

This is one of very few times we’ve seen this OG esports lineup reach the Grand Finals stage. That alone was already a solid achievement, and if they had won, it would have been their first ever big win. Unfortunately this was not meant to be. Gambit Esports had an exceptional performance, winning the Grand Finals with a straight clean 3-0. Here’s how the final round played out:
