eStar have just announced that Yan “Wei” Yang-Wei, which is their starting jungler will not be receiving his salary for one month due to a crucial mistake that cost them the series versus Bilibili Gaming in the 3rd week of LPL. Here is their statement on the matter:

What was the mistake?

The mistake that Wei made, being their main Jungler, was forgetting to change his summoner spell from ignite to smite in game 1 in their series. If you’ve seen even the slightest League of Legends gameplay you are definitely aware that smite is an important summoner spell when it comes to the jungle role, as not having it will diminish the experience you gain from farming in the jungle.

When the incident happened, the eStar squad informed the referee immediately, however the referee told them that there will be no remake for the match, and so they would have to go on with the wrong summoner spells picked.

How did the eStar team react?

Despite the devastating news, the team reacted positively given the unfortunate situation, knowing that what Wei did, was an honest mistake. Due to not having control in the jungle, the first game ended in favor of BLG. However, in the second match, Wei played extremely well with Ekko in the Jungle to tie the series. The third match was the final game of the series and after an intense 24 minutes BLG came out on top to win the series.

The mistake clearly impacted the series, and even though it wasn’t on purpose Wei was still punished for it. Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, however, one thing for certain is that Wei will definitely pay more attention during champion select so that history does not repeat itself.
