Cloud9 disappointing debut at Flashpoint 2

CS-GO

14 Nov 2020

The highly anticipated Cloud9 CS:GO roster had a very disappointing debut as they lost their first series match at Flashpoint 2 against Virtus.pro.

How did they lose versus Virtus.pro?

In this Best of 3 series, VP picked Inferno and Cloud9 picked Overpass, Dust 2 was left over. We had never seen a single match from this Cloud9 roster since its formation. So map wise we didn’t know at which level they were. However, we knew that statistically, Overpass would be the ideal map for them.

Inferno

The match kicked off with a pistol round win for Cloud9 on the CT side, however a dominant first half for VP followed. At the end of the first half, the score line was 12-3 in favor of VP. Inferno is generally a CT sided map, so Cloud9 only grabbing 3 rounds was certainly concerning. A few rounds later, Virtus.pro closed out the game with an amazing final round, ending the game 16-5.

Overpass

On Cloud9’s map pick, the team got off to a decent start, losing the pistol round but winning the 3 rounds that followed. Overpass though, being a generally CT sided map as well, aided VP into winning the half 10-5 in their favor. After this result, Cloud9 realized they had to step it up, and so when they stepped into the Counter-Terrorist side, they replied with a lot of rounds in their favor. In the final round, Cloud9 were in a 2-man advantage as it was down to a 4v2, favoring C9. Buster and Qikert had to pull off one of the amazing clutches of the event, and that is exactly what they did:

Cloud9 disappointing debut at Flashpoint 2 – What’s next?

With this result, Cloud9 have been dropped down to the losers bracket of where they will face off OG. Will the new Cloud9 roster manage to bounce back? We’ll have to see how they fare versus the OG roster in the losers bracket first. It is certainly a possibility, however, I wouldn’t be too confident about Cloud9.
