Valorant’s highest rank to be renamed after launch

There have been a few reports regarding the name of Valorant, the highest rank, not the game. It’s extremely easy to confuse and that is the main reason for the change.

Why is it so confusing?

When Riot Games released a statement regarding competitive play and the ranks, it raised a lot of questions as to why they thought, naming the highest rank in the game the same name as the name of the game would be a good idea. On paper, it makes sense due to Valorant being an extremely prestigious rank name, however as you might’ve noticed already, it raises a lot of confusion and is not healthy for the game.

Any idea of what they can change it to?

In Riot Games’ popular MOBA, League of Legends, the highest rank is named ‘Challenger’, so that will definitely be a name they will be considering if they don’t mind having the same rank names for the highest rank.

What are the community’s thoughts?

There are many that are voicing their opinion regarding the matter, and a couple of examples that were mentioned make sense. Some of the popular examples brought up that having the highest rank named Top 500, similar to Overwatch would be the best solution. Not only being a more fitting name, but also increases incentive for players that are in the Top 500 to reach a better rank and reach top 1 in their region.

Unfortunately enough, ranked play will not be available immediately on launch, as Riot have stated that competitive matchmaking will resume after a few weeks, once they confirm that the game and servers are running smoothly. This means that they will have enough time to think of a new and more appropriate name for the highest rank in the game.

Valorant Launch and Twitch Rivals event

As you may already be aware, Riot Games has released their tactical FPS, Valorant on June 2nd. The game was extremely popular during its closed beta period, especially on Twitch. Everyone is excited for the game’s release and its newly implemented:

  • Agent (Reyna)
  • Gamemode
  • Map (Ascent)

On top of the release, Twitch Rivals will be collaborating with Riot once more to carry out the first batch of competitive events for Valorant. The event will feature content creators and community figures from the following countries and regions: North America, Brazil, LATAM, Europe, Korea, and Japan.

With regards to the prize pool, Riot have stated that $200,000 will be the totalled amount for all the events combined. It is to be spread separately between the countries and regions.

All in all, the event will definitely be worth watching, despite the players being content creators and not professional players, we’re still in for a very fun event. The game’s release is one of the biggest game launches in the history of esports. This is when the game has released in each region:

ForZe acquires first CIS Valorant roster

ForZe have just announced that they have acquired the first ever CIS Valorant roster. The roster is made up of:

Players:

  • Stefan “1mpala” Ailazyan
  • Nikita “Coffee” Antsypirovich
  • Nikolai “zeddy” Lapko
  • Dmitry “SmartSeven” Smartselov
  • Nikolai “kolyaN” Varaxin

Coach:

  • Vladimir “PNUKH” Chervov

Background of the team

The CIS squad has talent from 3 different countries, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. The Ukrainian player, 1mpala has a lot of professional Counter-Strike experience, previously playing for S-gaming. Coffee and Zeddy have had their fair share of time together while playing CS:GO as well, representing organization ‘GoodJob’ for the majority of their career. Not much is known regarding the rest of the players, however they have certainly shown what they offer on Valorant, as this roster has already managed to win a couple of events, some of them being: The Cyber Sage Cup, Moscow Five Invitational and the Evelone Streamers Invitational.

Organizations interested in Valorant

As of right now, the game is still in closed beta (releasing on the 2nd of June), and a large number of organizations have already sparked their interest in having their very own Valorant squad. T1, NiP, and Cloud9 were some of the teams which were early into grabbing their first few players for their rosters. TSM and Lazarus were the recent teams to be signed, and we can expect a whole lot more organizations getting involved with the Valorant competitive scene.

A roster that will most definitely be getting picked up soon is the squad playing under the name “Fish123”. A UK based team featuring a couple of ex-CS:GO professional players. They have already caught the attention of multiple organisations with their recent winnings in multiple Valorant tournaments and events. Will they be the next to be picked up? And if yes, by who?

Riot Games finally reveal Valorant launch date

Riot Games have finally announced the released date of their highly anticipated Tactical First-Person Shooter, Valorant. In their latest statement, they have revealed that the game will be launching fully on the 2nd of June.

If you were lucky enough to get access to the Valorant Closed Beta, you’ve already had your fair share of playtime, as the Closed Beta has been out for more than a month. Throughout the Closed Beta we’ve already seen players that are going to thrive when the game releases, as they have mastered a major part of the game’s core gameplay. It is important to keep in mind that all statistics and progress that has been made during the closed beta, will not carry on to the launch version.

When Riot Games had released the trailer, it showed that Valorant would fully release in the Summer of 2020. They did not specify the exact date of release purposely, as they needed to work off the feedback they had to receive from the community.

The best part about the game release is that Riot Games will also be releasing a couple of new things to the Valorant launch version that the closed beta does not have currently. It is rumored that Riot Games will be giving us:

It is rumored that the map that will be released will have a venetian theme with the map name being “Ascent”. Riot have already shown parts of the map through Valorant’s official trailer, and some leakers have managed to grab screenshots of the map.

With regards to the new gamemode, it is likely that the new gamemode will be similar to a regular deathmatch mode, as the community has been requesting a mode similar to this since the closed beta release.

There hasn’t been a lot of information linked to the new character, however the game has a high demand for another support and healing character, as there is only one character that provides healing at the current moment.

Ascent

On the whole, we’re set for some exciting times in esports, as with the release of Riot Games’ Tactical FPS, we’ll finally have a competition between the FPS scene and have a generation of new FPS talents.
