What an event! Indeed, with 32 of the best PUBG teams in the world competing for $7.000.000 what else did we expect? Naturally, we’re referring to the PUBG Global Invitational.S 2021 which wrapped up a few days ago. As Susquehanna Sonqis walk away champions – here’s a recap!

Overall, the event was entirely a three horse race at the end of it – Soniqs Zenith and Gen.G were all clawing for dominance throughout the weeks of earning prize money. Do note that earnings were accumulated at several stages, though the Weekly Finals is where teams made their claim for the prize.

Here’s how the prize pool was split for the six weeks of exciting competition:

The phrase ‘it’s not how you start, but how you finish’ has never been more relevant. Do note how the prize for first place doubles at times from week to week. Teams earned their spot to compete at the Weekly Finals each week – lets focus on Soniqs’ timeline.

No, Soniqs weren’t the most dominant team this event. Accordingly, they missed out on competing in Weeks 2 and 3 and placed 11th in the first Weekly Finals. However, they really ramped things up when it mattered in the final three weeks. Accordingly, the team landed two consecutive 7th place finishes for Weeks 4 and 5 – not really sitting on anyone’s radar.

Then it happened – the former leaders of Zenith and Gen.G were overthrown by Soniqs thanks to an astonishing first place finish in Week 6 – landing the $500,000. And just like that, they inched out Zenith thanks to a first place and multiple second place finishes in the Week 6 rounds.

Viewership Stats via Esports Charts

  • Peak Viewers -221, 903
  • Hours Watched – 25,930,345
  • Average Viewers – 118,811

Bearing in mind how long the event ran for and the current state of PUBG, these statistics are good but nothing outrageous. Bearing in mind the size of the prize pool and the fact that this is the highest level of competition, perhaps viewership could be better especially when compared to sister esport PUBG Mobile.

We’re excited to see what’s up next for PUBG – we hope you appreciated that very short recap!
