General info

Perfect World is putting on another Dota 2 Asia Championships and this year they will organize the event in partnership with PGL and it is also a Major this time around.

The tournament will follow the Major format of having regional open qualifiers all around the world that leads into closed qualifiers which in turn determines 10 of the 16 teams that will participate in the main tournament that will be held, just like last year, at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China. All of the qualifiers will be played online.

The teams that are invited directly to the event are Invictus Gaming, Newbee, Team Liquid, Vici Gaming, Virtus Pro and Team Secret. 

The Open qualifiers will kick off on the 28th of January and the main event will start on the 30th of March.

Format


Open Qualifiers

Single elimination bracket with best-of-three matches from the quarterfinals.

Top 2 proceed to the closed qualifiers.

Closed Qualifiers

The teams that advanced from the open qualifiers play in their regional closed qualifier, all but the Chinese closed qualifier follows the same format.

The format is a double elimination bracket with best-of-three matches

China Stage 1

12 teams are divided into two groups, each group plays a single round robin group stage with best-of-one matches.

Bottom team from each group are eliminated.

China Stage 2

Double elimination bracket with best-of-three matches.

 Group Stage

Sixteen teams play in a best-of-one round robin.
Top two teams from each group advance to the Playoffs of Main Event.

Bottom two teams from each group eliminated.

Playoffs

Breakout
8 teams: 3rd - 6th place teams from each group one-round best-of-three single-elimination bracket4 winners advance, losers are eliminated.


Playoff stage


8 teams: 4 winners of the Breakout and the Top 4 winners from Group Stage
Double-elimination bracket, the first two rounds of the Lower bracket are best-of-one, while the Grand Finals are best-of-five, others are best-of-three.
