The CDL 2020 Florida Home Series was a shocker for the competitive Call of Duty community. It’s safe to say that nobody expected the general outcome of the event – although FaZe Atlanta may have won as expected, nothing else followed in terms of predictability. Read on to learn how the entire CDL 2020 season has just been shaken up.
Florida hosted the event from the 8th to the 10th of May with $100,000 on the line through an online environment. We’ll quickly dive into the groups and their outcomes.
Group A
- Toronto Ultra vs New York Subliners (3-1)
- Florida Mutineers vs Minnesota Rokkr (0-3)
- Toronto Ultra vs Minnesota Rokkr (3-1)
Round one set the record straight – Minnesota Rokkr are better than Florida Mutineers as they silenced the ‘Top 4 Argument’ with a sweep, making Florida look awfully weak following their Home Series win two weeks ago. Meanwhile, New York once again failed to show off their potential while Toronto Ultra stunned the competition with a confident 3-1 victory, though neither of them would be leaving the competition anytime soon.
Possibly the greatest upset of the season, Toronto knocking down Minnesota to the Losers’ Bracket shocked the entire community. Both Minnesota and Florida stood as the clear favourites to leave the group and now at least one of them would be kicked out.
- New York Subliners vs Florida Mutineers (3-0)
- Minnesota Rokkr vs New York Subliners (0-3)
No, neither of the favourites would make it out of the group. New York Subliners woke up with a fire on Saturday, taking both of the giants down and cementing themselves as a potential new Top 4 threat in the league. Everyone was absolutely shocked that New York and Toronto made it out of the group.
Group B
- Paris Legion vs FaZe Atlanta (1-3)
- OGLA vs London Royal Ravens (2-3)
- Paris Legion vs OGLA (0-3)
Compared to the first round of Group A, Group B assumed a more expected conclusion. FaZe would go on to reach Round 2 and inevitably make it to the semifinals as the overall favourites to win the entire thing. Meanwhile, OGLA fell hard to London only to compensate with a beating over Paris: bombing them out of the competition.
- Atlanta FaZe vs London Royal Ravens (3-1)
- London Royal Ravens vs OGLA (0-3)
And what a comeback for OGLA on Day 2. They woke up and rematched a London that fell to Atlanta earlier on thanks to a 3-0 sweep pioneered by an impressive performance from the new substitute of Chino.
Playoffs
Three of the four contenders remaining were simply on nobody’s radar whatsoever, and FaZe seemed clear to claim it.
- Toronto Ultra vs OGLA (2-3)
- Atlanta FaZe vs New York Subliners (3-2)
Day 3 of the CDL 2020 Florida Home Series Online was simply thrilling. Both game 5s headed to the penultimate rounds of that Search and Destroy, leaving Toronto and Subliners brokenhearted, while FaZe and OGLA were undeniably ecstatic.
All three of these other teams besides FaZe desperately needed points, sitting at the bottom for the majority of this league to now making it to their very first semi-finals. Following some quality competitive Call of Duty, we had our final.
- OGLA vs Atlanta FaZe (1-3)
OGLA just couldn’t handle the preparation from FaZe. Having made that roster change recently, the map vetos from FaZe countered their lack of preparation in a great way. Despite this, OGLA showed up and fought their hearts out.
Bearing their win in mind, FaZe now sit in their rightful place at the top of the 2020 Call of Duty League. Following this event, the leaderboard has become a lot tighter as the lower tier teams are climbing up. With all the upsets, this event was a banger.
