Riot Games have finally announced it, the official date for the 2020 LCS Summer Split. Following the unfortunate cancellation of the Mid-Season Invitational earlier this week, many were nervous over the possibility that all competitive League of Legends would be cancelled. On the contrary, Riot Games have revealed that the 2020 LCS Summer Split will simply take place two weeks later than planned.
June 13th – mark the date. Effectively, the MSI has been replaced to avoid having a gap and leaving the community dissatisfied and unstimulated. A few other small details have also been changed: such as Saturday and Sunday starting at 3pm CT while Monday will also offer competitive matches at 7pm.
It may be a few weeks later, but nonetheless, the 2020 LCS Summer Split looks to continue on from the Spring Summer Split, kicking off with an exciting showdown between Cloud9 and FlyQuest.
The main speculation over the LCS Summer Split 2020 is whether it will be held online or not. Riot Games have expressed a yearning desire to return to the LCS Studios as outlined below:
“If we’re unable to return to the LCS Studios for the start of the LCS Summer Split, we’ll continue to have the games take place online.”
This announcement partners one made over the LEC in its return on June 12th with its finals being held on September 5-6th.
Besides that, the competitive League of Legends community is currently enjoying an array of roster changes and storylines which will build up even further with the additional time, such as “Doublelift” making the swap from Team Liquid to TSM. So while competitive League of Legends takes a small hiatus, we can be sure that it will all be worth the wait.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the LCS as the community develops growing anxiety for competitive play – stay tuned for all the details!
