Event

After highlighting last week’s event of the South Asia Finals, the PUBG Mobile Pro League now brings its action to Thailand through the PMPL-Spring Split 2020: Thailand Finals. On this exciting journey to the PUBG Mobile World League Spring 2020 – Global Finals, every single step of the way is crucial for teams to earn their way into the largest PUBG Mobile event ever so teams will have to battle on this PUBG Mobile Thailand Pro League Finals in order to keep on climbing towards the World League.

The Thailand Finals take place following the regular season, which hosted a total of 24 teams from the 2nd of February to the 22nd of March, battling it out for a chance to qualify for the finals. Only the top 16 advanced forward in the competition, and we’ll be referring to these results in our predictions for the Finals.

Now, back to the finals – the stakes have been raised a whole lot higher as the top 16 squads will now compete for three qualification spots to the SEA Finals and portions of the $81,000 prize pool too!

To run across the span of three days, March 27th-29th, the Major PMPL event has in fact been moved to an online format from the originally planned LAN setup due to the COVID-19 situation as teams will not be playing at Bitec Bangna but at True Digital Park.

The following are the 16 teams placed according to their placement during the regular season for context:

  • 1. RRQ Athena (846)
  • 2. FaZe Clan (820)
  • 3. ILLUMINATE The Murder (688)
  • 4. Made in Thailand (678)
  • 5. POWER888 ESPORT (650)
  • 6. Suphanburi E-Sport (631)
  • 7. QC.20 Something (621)
  • 8. Team Secret TH (611)
  • 9. LYNX TH (595)
  • 10. King of Gamers Club (580)
  • 11. Armory Gaming (567)
  • 12. Purple Mood E-Sport (562)
  • 13. Daytrade Gaming (559)
  • 14. Pyramid Esports (522)
  • 15. SharpeR Esport (489)
  • 16. Golden Cat (462)

Format and Schedule

Anyways, the format will be similar to the regular season, just on a smaller scale, with 16 matches to be played out across three days (4 matches per day) in which teams have the opportunity to score points through kills and placement.

Following the three days of competition, we’ll have our top three competitors. Each of the top three squads of four will earn qualification for the PMPL SEA Spring Finals (except RRQ Athena who has already qualified due to their victory last year at the PMPL SEA 2019 Fall Split).

The individual winner, however, will also qualify for the PUBG Mobile World League Spring 2020 – Global Finals! This is an incredible opportunity for any team to seal their fate in the largest event of the season so far.

Bearing in mind the simplified format, the schedule is also rather simple. On each day, the four matches will be streamed at one go, once the broadcast is up. Regrettably, as of this moment, no information is available for the exact schedule with respect to times due to the recent shift to an online format – the specifics still need to be sorted. After day one, I assume the rhythm will become more predictable.

What is certain is that the event will kick off on March 26th at 2.00pm native time onwards.

Streams

For the event, one can be sure to view the action either from the PUBG Mobile Esports YouTube, and Facebook Gaming channels, all of which are packing native casting:

Predictions

From the month-long Regular Season, it’s clear-cut that FaZe Clan and RRQ Athena find themselves in a league of their own within this group of squads, both clearing third place by roughly a staggering 200 points.

Since 2019, RRQ Athena has been one of the strongest teams within the PMPL Thailand region, having placed first at the PUBG Mobile Club Open – Fall Split: SEA Championship as mentioned earlier and also second at the PUBG Mobile Star Challenge World Cup 2019.

Their recent signing of “Beer11” helped them secure the Regular Season victory. However, when involved in international competition they have a tendency to underperform, with placings as low as 7th. Their ability to remain dominant in the local scene all depends on FaZe Clan.

FaZe Clan is a very different story as the organization is an absolute newcomer to the PMPL Thailand scene. Formed in early January of 2020, the organization entered the scene with one intention – to win.

Acquiring a young and potent all-thai roster including ‘Vintorez’, ‘BulShark’, ‘Maroon5’ and ‘Echo’, the squad has seen relatively successful results in the short time since. Apart from placing second in the Regular season, the roster also managed first and second placings at the Gameling Nations Cup 2020 and the Suphanburi City Championship Minors respectively.

First and second is between FaZe and RRQ Athena – the newcomer versus the established leaders.

What about third place?

Now this is question is a lot hard to answer, as in the regular season, third to fifth spanned a range of 38 points only. Based on past performances, many would go for ILLUMINATE The Murder as the team to prevail – as their past is riddled with top 8 performances, including two second places at the PMCO – Fall Split: SEA Championship and the PMCO – Fall Split SEA League. On a few occasions, they’ve even managed to outplace RRQ Athena.

Regardless, the squad will still need to fight to earn that coveted third place.
