How to watch the ESL Pro League Season 11: event, format, schedule, stream, and predictions

News

16 Mar 2020

Nathan Bonello

The ESL Pro League is a project between ESL and ESEA which is hosted twice a year. ESL Pro League Season 11 is the next season of CS:GO Pro League. ESL Pro League Season 11 is the first season of the league that has introduced the permanent-partner teams to the league as well as the conversion to a single global league instead of multiple regional leagues. The most recent CS:GO Pro League was ESL Pro League Season 10 was won by Mousesports.

How to Qualify for the League

For this Season of ESL Pro League, there are 4 teams picked out of the ESL World Ranking, 5 teams that were seeded from the Season 10 Finals, 2 teams from the 32nd Season of ESEA Premier (Mountain Dew League) and 13 Partner teams. These partnered teams have signed with ESL as stakeholders and they will be earning a share of revenue from all ESL Pro Tour tournaments. This also means that the founding teams will retain a long-term spot in the league.

Groups and Format

On the 11th of March ESL had announced that they will be moving the ESL Pro League Season 11 CSGO to an online setting due to the current global health situation with COVID-19. Due to all the travelling involved for all the teams, it has been put into effect that teams will be split by 2. A European division which will consist of three groups of 6 teams, and a North-American division with a single group. This was obviously the best answer to discard any network issues that might arise during the CS:GO Pro League.

In the European Division, ESL have announced that they will be using a Bo3 round-robin format. The 3 group stage winners will move on to a secondary group stage, whilst the runners up and third placed team will move on top play decider matches for the remaining slots. The Secondary group stage will also include the same format, having the winner directly qualifying to a Bo5 Final. The second and third placing teams will play a Bo3 decider, and the winner will head on to the finals.

In regard to the North-American Division, all 6 teams will play in a Bo3 round robin format. The top 4 teams will proceed to the playoffs which will have a double elimination bracket setting. The top 2 teams will play the upper bracket grand final, whilst the bottom 2 teams will have to play their way through to reach the upper bracket winner for a Bo5 Grand Final.

Alongside the above modifications, there were also some changes in regards to teams. Renegades decided to dropout due to having to travel overseas, and its very hard to blame them for dropping out, giving the current health situation around the world. In regards to Renegades’ drop out, ESL have added that this doesn’t mean that they are disqualified from ESL Pro League and that they fully support their decision. Swole Patrol have filled their slot.

Sharks were also ready to participate in ESL Pro League Season 11 CSGO, although ESL thought it would be best if the players were at home in Brazil, due to some countries having travel bans introduced to reduce the spread of the Corona Virus. The team replacing them in the North-American division will be announced soon.

BOOM have a similar situation like Sharks, and were sent back home, being replaced by Team Spirit in Group A. Similar to Renegades and Sharks, BOOM are not disqualified from ESL Pro League.

And for the last change, Heroic (Now FunPlus Phoenix) decided to participate in Flashpoint League instead of ESL Pro League Season 11, so they were replaced by BIG in group B.

Predictions

Having a majority of the 24 teams in the top 30 will certainly make predictions very hard to declare, but if one must predict with regards to teams recent performances, Astralis, Natus Vincere, G2 Esports, Fnatic, FaZe Clan are definitely the teams to place your bets on. Astralis have the easiest group by far, with Vitality being their only worth challenger. Godsent also have a huge opportunity to pull an upset vs one of the top teams in the group to shake teams up.

In Group B we have quite a lot of heavy hitters, some of them being: Natus Vincere, Fnatic and Complexity. Natus Vincere have recently won IEM Katowice and have plans to dominate ESL Pro League season 11 as well. Fnatic have looked very structured as of late, and only losing versus teams like G2, Astralis and Mousesports. As for Complexity, they have had one of the best starts to the year in BLAST Premier Spring Series 2020 beating the likes of Astralis and Vitality, although they have been quite inconsistent recently. We’ll just have to wait for Day 2 of ESL Pro League Season 11 to see what the teams have in store for us.

As for Group C we have some pretty solid and successful teams like Mousesports, G2 esports and FaZe. They are the most likely to top their group according to their recent results, although we must not count out OG or Virtus.Pro out of the winning picture as they have the highest potential for an upset.

In North America, we have Team Liquid, 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses as the main top dogs of the group. There is still one more team to be announced, and it is rumored that Bad News Bears or Triumph will be joining Group A of the North American division.

Despite all the issues and changes that the ESL Pro League Season 11 has went through, it should still be a good event to watch. It is guaranteed to showcase some of the best Counter-Strike in the world and create amazing story lines for many teams.
