ESL have released a statement about their upcoming events, ESL Cologne and IEM Melbourne 2020. Unfortunately, the highly anticipated events will not be kicking off this year, however, they have been rescheduled to next year. The main reason for this is because of the current global health situation not allowing teams and staff from certain countries to travel and not to mention the risks of the current pandemic.
In the announcement, they have stated that this year’s ESL One Cologne will be played online without an audience and that all tickets purchased will be valid for next year’s events. However, if you would like to refund your ticket, you can request a refund by going to the official event website and reading the FAQ on how to request a refund.
ESL One Cologne will be hosted between the 16th and 18th of July 2021. With regards to IEM Melbourne, there will be no IEM Melbourne 2020, however, it is stated that it will be hosted next year between the 21st and 22nd of August.
This year’s ESL One Cologne, as stated above, will be played online between the 21st and 30th of August. Cologne was one of the most hyped-up events this year, and it is very unfortunate that it has also been postponed due to the current health situation. There have been several events canceled due to this ongoing pandemic, and even though esports has the luxury of being played online instead of being played offline in front of a live audience, esports has still taken a huge hit.
There are many more esports events yet to be canceled or postponed, as tournament organizers are evaluating and monitoring the pandemic, and taking the appropriate precautions to make top tier events while keeping the staff, players, and fans as safe as possible.
