CS:GO February Update Slows Down AWPers

News

The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive patch of this week, released on the 24th of February 2020, may please certain players with the UI overhaul but others, namely competitors, are having doubts over slight tweaks which will affect competitive play. Below we’ll be breaking down all you need to know as a player or as a viewer of competitive CS:GO in this csgo update. If you enjoy running the AWP, you may need to switch up your playstyle.

Ironically enough, the patch brings Patches quite literally. Players now have the liberty of designing their appearance through customized patches that stick to agents. Apart from map and operation stickers, the notion of introducing competitive team emblems and player names seems rather fun. These new cosmetics will be available on Steam for lunch-money prices.

Speaking of buying, one won’t fail to notice the updated ‘buy menu’, as a trusty agent stands to hold any weapon you select for a quick preview, giving you the chance to check out any added patches too. Smaller changes involve the mouse becoming centered once entering this menu. Upon purchasing a weapon, players may now aim down sights through their very own customized crosshair. While this is a fairly dated concept in the FPS market, it’s new to CS:GO thanks to the February update.

The update certainly didn’t target competitive play, but the change to the AWP is considerable. So much so, that the renowned “kennyS” is not on board for AWP crouching movement acceleration to remain constant and not spike after firing a shot. Making AWP play a touch slower, taking a quick snipe and bailing is now a whole lot more dangerous. Deeming it as “definitely a big change”, we’ll be able to witness its effect on the competition in every event following last week’s DreamHack Anaheim.

The AWP is a staple of competitive CS:GO and touching it for the community is similar to touching a mother’s child. This tiny 600MB February update has the potential to shift the competition in favor of certain teams as AWPers will have to adapt and do so quickly, learning to play slower.
