On the 22nd and 23rd of February, the competitive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare community will revel in the continuation of the Call of Duty League, Activision’s attempt at making the most of the franchise format for the beloved first-person-shooter. Plenty of notions and ideas have stirred Modern Warfare as of late; apart from benching of players, smack-talking and other newsworthy topics, we’ll be dialing into the updated CDL rulesets to observe some minute but vital changes which will come into play this weekend.
When Modern Warfare arrived in London a couple of weeks ago, co-ordination for the event hit a brick wall as each series was taking an incredible amount of time: some upward of 2 hours without considering the consistent and repetitive adverts rolling in between. So much so, that after the Chicago Huntsmen beat Dallas to win the event in London, the stream was simply forced to cut off due to the severe amount of time taken. To combat this, the timers for the game modes of Search&Destroy and Domination have been reduced; shaving a minute off of each S&D round and a half in Domination will now last 5 minutes. These tiny changes should help shape up an improved viewing experience.
Meanwhile, future changes will involve the CDL completely banning killstreaks, as they’re already rare in competitive Modern Warfare as it is. Beyond the official rules of the Call of Duty League, one can expect other changes respecting gentlemen-agreements between professionals – such as the limited use of tactical equipment especially after the Huntsmen, winners of the London event, were caught red-handed and have upset the professional community heavily; now asking for forgiveness. Some professionals have also taken to making use of an unorthodox strategy in self-sabotaging in order to achieve better spawns; however, the CDL rules as they stand do not allow such deliberate actions so no form of this action should be present this weekend.
That’s the entire update; small changes here and there which should help Modern Warfare grow as an esport. Regardless, all eyes are on Atlanta as they seek shelter in their home crowd while trying to prove themselves as the top team at the moment.
Summary:
- Round timer for both Dom and S&D reduced
- Killstreaks to be eradicated
- Gentlemen agreements remade
- Potential self-sabotage at the event
