After a three week hiatus since CDL Los Angeles, the Call of Duty League has been flipped on its head as the community gears up for CDL Dallas this weekend. Having transitioned to a fully online league for the remainder of the season, the event will serve as a taster to the rest of how the season will go down with this new format.
Week 5 of the CDL will go down like any other: eight teams will match up in a GSL style group where two wins is are all that a team needs to progress to the Bracket Stage. Once there, a Single Elimination bracket will determine a winner from the four remaining teams at this point. The following eight will be competing at CDL Dallas online, as opposed to the Toyota Music Factor as planned initially:
- Chicago Hunstmen
- Dallas Empire
- Florida Mutineers
- LA Guerrillas
- Minnesota Rokkr
- Paris Legion
- Seattle Surge
- Toronta Ultra

Predictions
This weekend looks to answer a phenomenal amount of questions after the first season break. Chicago Hunstmen and Dallas Empire will do their best to thwart each other off of their second wins of the season and the massive threat in Minnesota Rokkr, who has already beaten both of them across the entire season so far. Meanwhile, in the bottom half, Paris Legion are still slumping while Seattle Surge and LA Guerillas look to validate their recent transfer moves. At the predicted eight spot – Toronta Ultra remain a massive question mark as a team.
All of this competitive tension is definitely exhilarating, but there’s only one question on the community’s mind – can the Call of Duty League survive through an Online Format? What kind of backlash can be expected should a gun-fight go one way due to internet connection? It’s certainly rather saddening to see the opening season of a franchise league have to suffer such a loss, and it will be up to the community to keep it going – no desk, no mainstage, no crowd chants; just pure gameplay and commentating like back in the Black Ops 3 Pro League.
This weekend will probably determine the remainder of the season and it will stand to test the support of the competitive Call of Duty community.
