The Chicago Home Series Online 2020 was another incredible event for the Call of Duty League – apart from marking the half-way point of the league, it invited the top teams in the league to battle it out, leading to some shocking outcomes. With another $100,000 on the line, we’d finally figure out who really is on top – read on this CDL Chicago Home Series 2020 Recap to learn more!
The following eight teams logged into the servers from the 24th-26th of April:
Group A
- London Royal Ravens
- FaZe Atlanta
- Chicago Huntsmen
- New York Subliners
Group B
- Seattle Surge
- Los Angeles Guerillas
- Optic Gaming Los Angeles
- Dallas Empire
An incredible array of storylines allowed for an exciting amount of pre-game speculation. While several teams such as OGLA and New York Subliners desperately needed points, the likes of Chicago were busy trying to cement themselves at the top. We’ll first approach the Group Stage and then the Finals.
Group A – New York Show Up: A Fright for Huntsmen
Group A for CDL Chicago Online 2020 was one of the most stacked Groups in the league so far: as Chicago and FaZe looked to finally face-off. That was until New York Subliners showed off their newly formed roster with the addition of “Mack” – taking down Chicago in what seems to be the greatest upset of the season in 3-2 fashion. They then went on to match up well against FaZe, who had just swept London to lose 3-2.
Meanwhile, the entire community was unimpressed with Chicago. Luckily, Day 2 started off well with a win over London and a redeeming piece of revenge over New York. Chicago and FaZe may have reached the semi-finals, but neither came out unscathed.
Group B – Redemption for Seattle Surge: Failure for OGLA
Group B consisted of many teams who were sitting at the bottom, fighting for points. Seattle took on LAG in the first round while OGLA fell to Dallas as expected. Dallas would make quick work of Seattle in the second round, putting them against the winner of OGLA and LAG.
OGLA, despite a comforting history against LAG, bombed out of the competition with a roster many believe is simply finished with. Seattle would once again beat out LAG to reach their first semi-final of the season – a result they desperately needed.
Finals – Establishing the Top 3
- FaZe Atlanta vs Seattle Surge (3-1)
Although there may have been some enthusiasm towards Seattle for this match, it was always going to be a FaZe win here. However, one massive takeaway is the fact that Seattle managed to steal a 6-5 Search&Destroy over FaZe – publically overcoming their history of S&D difficulties.
FaZe would patiently wait for an opponent in the Grand Final.
- Dallas Empire vs Chicago Huntsmen (3-0)
In every single encounter yet, Chicago had beaten out Dallas with relative ease thanks to their undeniable slaying power: making it a one-sided rivalry so far in the league. However, the Huntsmen looked off, seemingly weak and disorganized. Dallas took advantage of this, battering the Huntsmen through a powerful individual showing from the likes of “Shottzy”.
And just like that, Dallas dismantled the Huntsmen in a 3-0 fashion – doubts have clouded the future of Chicago and its roster, especially due to poor showings in respawn which should be figured out post-event.
- Atlanta FaZe vs Dallas Empire (1-3)
The CDL Chicago Home Series Online 2020 had all led up to this match – the young guns of FaZe against the veterans of Dallas Empire. The narrative of the Call of Duty League seemed to favour FaZe here, but not on the watch of Dallas.
Dallas Empire’s respawns were simply untouchable, as the likes of “Simp” and “aBeZy” were getting absolutely destroyed. Atlanta managed to regain with a clutch S&D win in Game 2, though they would never make it Game 5.
Dallas Empire are on top of the Call of Duty League 2020 right now following this weekend. One can expect multiple roster changes soon as teams try to catch up.
