At a time where esports scene after esports scene is shutting down due to the pandemic, it’s surprising to discover potential new esports on the horizon as is the case with Call of Duty: Mobile following its incredibly successful launch and release now rivalled by its console-brother in Warzone. Despite its opening howling success, the question of Call of Duty Mobile esports hasn’t been brought to light – until now!
Ahead of any official details directly from Activision, a personality within the mobile gaming scene has officially spoken out on Twitter after catching sight of an illustration allegedly outlining the competitive framework for Call of Duty: Mobile. “MobileMatt” from Complexity Gaming stated all of this in the tweet below:
The entire upcoming Call of Duty Mobile season will lead up to the CODM Championship 2020, just like it’s console scene for Modern Warfare, but split up into four stages:
- 1 – Tournament (Solo) – April 2-26th
- 2 – Tournament (Team Up) – May 1-10th
- 3 – Regional Qualifier – May 17-31st
- 4 – Regional Playoffs – June – August
- 5 – CODM Championship 2020
Of course, not much else can be made certain such as the prize pool, the nature of whether it’ll be solos, duos or squads competition, what the regions are and most importantly if it will be indeed happening regardless of the ongoing pandemic.
However, it is no surprise to see Call of Duty: Mobile taking this step following the success of PUBG Mobile, beginning its second season this year. Entering the scene would place the two titles as direct competitors against one another. Also, it’s assumed that it will be battle-royale and not other game modes involved in competitive play.
Sadly, it must be considered that Activision will not be revealing this just yet. Due to the current global situation, it may not be the optimal time to confirm a schedule for the remainder of the year, so what was shown may have been a former plan. Although planned for next week, it may not happen.
