The latest announcement from Astralis has revealed that Jakob “JUGi” Hansen will be joining the Danish roster as their 7th man on the squad.

This is Astralis’ current and updated roster:

Players:

  • Nicolai “device” Reedtz
  • Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen
  • Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth
  • Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander
  • Emil “Magisk” Reif
  • Jakob “JUGi” Hansen
  • Patrick “es3tag” Hansen (from July 1)

Coach:

  • Danny “zonic” Sørensen (coach)

Past experience

JUGi has a lot of experience when it comes to danish rosters. He has previously played for Heroic, OpTic and his most recent team, North. He was benched by North back in January, to make way for MSL to return. JUGi has been a free agent since the 26th of April and this instantly triggered the attention of the management of Astralis.

Kasper Hvidt, the Director of Sports for Astralis has stated that these changes they are making to their main roster may escalate to fluctuating results initially, however the main goal with these changes are to create a stronger Astralis for the years to come. In addition, he has said that he seeks to have two players which can fill each role in the team.

This whole 7 players on a roster is confusing to some, however we’re aware from past occurances of how travelling and jet lag has a negative effect on Astralis’ players. Up to the point where they had to literally skip events just because they were too tired and unable to travel. So grabbing 2 substitutes is definitely not the wrong move as everyone benefits from this. Sure, the substitutes might not be at the same level of the current main roster, however as Astralis’ director of Sports has stated, this will definitely create a stronger Astralis for the future, and that is their main goal.
